It has been a fabulous 2014 season already for Seattle Mariners 23-yr old rookie SS Chris Taylor (Virginia Beach).
Taylor, who turns 24 at the end of this month, was a 2012 Mariners draft choice. This year, he was hitting .328, good for second in the entire Pacific Coast League, and that earned him a spot on the PCL all-star team. In addition, he was the PCL AAA All-star Game MVP. He got the call on July 24th and reported to Seattle for his major league debut, vs. Baltimore. This young man has taken off since!!!
In 5 games in the major leagues, he is batting .353, having hit safely in 4 of those 5 games. (In fact, the only game where he did not hit safely was his second game when he only had one official AB as a pinch-hitter.) He got a base hit to center in his major league debut. His third major league game saw him get his first extra base hit and first major league run batted in.
I think it is safe to say that Taylor might be in the bigs for good. Virginia is emerging as a hotbed of baseball talent, and Taylor is the latest to prove so.
