This date in baseball history….7/4
As we celebrate our Independence Day today, one noteworthy event happened on this date in 2005. The Tigers called up a young fireballer righthander to make his major league debut, vs. Cleveland. He would pitch 5 1/3 innings, allow 4 runs on 7 hits, walk 3, and notch 4 SO, and get cerdited with a loss. He would make one more start in 2005 before being returned to the minors, another loss. He has gone on to win nearly 150 games at the age of 31.
That pitcher’s name is Justin Verlander (Manakin-Sabot).
