Cubs rookie reliever Neil Ramirez (Virginia Beach) continues to be a major force for the Chicago bullpen, and last night in St Louis the Cubs decided to stretch him out a little more, giving him his longest outing of the season, 1 2/3 innings. Ramirez rewarded his manager for his faith in him.
Ramirez came on in the 7th and struckout Yadier Molina swinging to start things. He then allowed a single that was quickly erased on a DP. End of threat.
He came on in the 8th inning and got two quick outs, including a Joey Butler swinging before getting pulled.
In 8 games since getting called up, totaling 7 1/3 innings, Neil Ramirez has a 1.23 ERA. Other than a solo HR on May 6 against the White Sox, he has held his opponents scoreless. He has allowed 4 hits and struckout 12.
